Build a 30-Day Content Calendar in One Afternoon

Mar 21, 20267 min read

Consistency beats creativity every time. This is the exact framework we use to plan, batch, and schedule a full month of content before the month starts.

The most common reason local businesses fall off their content schedule isn't laziness — it's the blank page problem. Every day they sit down to post, they have to decide what to post, how to frame it, and whether it's good enough. That decision fatigue kills consistency.

The solution is to make all those decisions once, at the start of the month, so that every day you're executing a plan instead of creating one.

Step 1: Define Your Content Pillars

Every business has 3–5 content pillars — the recurring themes that anchor their feed. For a restaurant, that might be: signature dishes, behind-the-scenes, staff stories, seasonal specials, and community. For a gym, it might be: member transformations, trainer spotlights, workout tips, culture, and results.

Write yours down. These become the categories you pull from when planning each week.

Step 2: Map the Month

Open a spreadsheet or a simple doc. Map out every day of the month. Assign a content pillar to each posting day. If you're posting 4x per week, that's 16–18 posts. Rotate through your pillars so no single theme dominates.

Mark any key dates: product launches, events, holidays, local happenings. These become anchor posts that the rest of the calendar builds around.

Step 3: Batch the Shoot

Once the calendar is mapped, you know exactly what you need to shoot. Schedule one shoot day per month — typically 3–4 hours — and capture everything you need for the next 30 days. This is how our retainer clients stay consistent without spending every week scrambling for content.

Step 4: Write Captions in Batches

Don't write captions one at a time. Block 90 minutes and write all of them in a single session. You'll find a rhythm, your voice will be consistent, and you'll finish faster than you expect. Use a simple template: hook (first line), context (2–3 sentences), CTA (one clear ask).

Step 5: Schedule Everything

Load everything into your scheduling tool of choice (Later, Buffer, or Meta Business Suite). Set it and move on. The month is handled.
